Questions from the trail

What makes Standard Ebooks different from other free ebook sources?

Standard Ebooks applies rigorous modern typography standards with proper curly quotes, em-dashes, and en-dashes. They do careful complete proofreading by checking against original page scans, include rich detailed metadata, use state-of-the-art ereader technology with popup footnotes and scalable graphics, draw quality covers from public domain fine art, and use clean semantic markup that serves as a model for ebook production.

Are the ebooks truly free and unrestricted?

Yes. All ebooks produced by Standard Ebooks are distributed free of cost and free of U.S. copyright restrictions. The text and cover art are already in the public domain, and Standard Ebooks dedicates all of its own work to the public domain as well, making each ebook file libre as well as free.

How can errors in Standard Ebooks be corrected?

Standard Ebooks stores each ebook in the Git source control system, which makes it easy for anyone to submit corrections. Even if errors are missed during the initial proofing, the community can help fix them through this system.
